Frequently asked questions
Are food banks and food pantries government organizations?
No. Food banks and pantries are independent 501(c)(3) organizations, and are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. However, food banks can and do participate in some government programs that help address food insecurity. These programs include Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CFSP) for seniors and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for children.
How is HaCoBACare funded?
We are funded exclusively by donations from church members in the Hamilton County Baptist Association, others in the community, and from grants and donations by generous organizations looking to make a positive difference in the world with us.
Is HaCoBACare a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?
Yes. As a part of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, our food pantry qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization.
What are the requirements to get food from HaCoBACare?
We serve any residents of the greater Chattanooga TN area referred by United Way 211. Simply contact United Way and request to be routed to HaCoBACare. We do ask you to share your household demographic information, as we are obligated to report back to the Greater Chattanooga Food Bank.
When is the food pantry open?
The HaCoBACare Food Pantry is open: Tuesday/Thursday/Friday from 10:00a.m. until 1:00p.m. If a client is unable to pick up food during the regularly scheduled times, we will work to make accommodations.
